A PhD in Cellular and Molecular Physiology
Before completing her cardiovascular fellowships, Dr. Tukaye earned a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Physiology from Johns Hopkins University. This doctoral work provided a rigorous, laboratory-based understanding of how the body’s cells and tissues function — knowledge that continues to inform her clinical approach today.
Dr. Tukaye’s research interests are associated with preconditioning, ischemia-reperfusion pathophysiology, and vascular biology — each a distinct piece of the science behind how the heart and blood vessels respond to injury, stress, and disease.
